Informal Monthly Meeting

From DBKA Website

On the first Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm, the association holds an informal meeting at The Comrade’s Club in Crich (see the events programme). These meetings are an opportunity for the members of the association to get together and chat about their beekeeping problems and successes, as well as a good opportunity for new beekeepers to get advice from more experienced beekeepers.

In the past, the meetings have often involved a presentation by a member or invited guest on some aspect of beekeeping. Recent meetings have included presentations on Bee stings and allergies, bee diseases and their recognition, building your own hives from scratch, and how to test your honey for enzyme activity.

This year, the format of the meetings has changed to include a half hour session describing what beekeepers should be doing in the upcoming month. This is targetted at new beekeepers, and often leads on to an extended discussion about specific topics that have come up during the presentation. This has proved quite popular with new and old members alike.

A cold buffet is provided in return for a small contribution, and there is a bar selling a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

School lane is a minor road that leads off Bowns Hill road just above the market place. Starting from the market place, walk up the Bowns Hill road and turn right between two buildings just after the post office.

The Comrade’s Club is a one story building on the left just a little way along School Lane.

There is no parking on School Lane or at the Comrade’s Club. There is plenty of parking on the Market place, or at the roadside, particularly on Bowns Hill.
